Tech Bros and Their Dangerous Gamble.
AI has become political shorthand for the simpleton little people, and we can thank the politically illiterate AI C-Suite for that. While the public is AI illiterate, the AI Bros are politically illiterate.
But Tech Bros in general dutifully ran to Trump because they knew that in the short-term, they could get whatever they wanted. This lead to an interesting divide: we have not one, but two economies: The billionaire economy, and the middle-class economy.
Trump deludes himself into thinking he did great things for the economy. No, he merely locked up the billionaire economy, and that does absolutely nothing for the middle-class economy. He went for the cheap and easy solution just as the Tech Bros did by aligning with him.
Now that the tide is turning, this strategy is backfiring on Trump, and it will backfire on AI.
The problem is the US cannot afford to sink AI, especially as China and the rest of the world are using the technology and prospering from it.
The Left have irrationally decide that AI is bad, and are stuck in 2022. Journalists do not understand AI and have painted a fantasy scenario instead of getting off their backsides and taking AI literacy courses. This isn’t a search engine. This isn’t social media. You can’t muddle your way through AI. You actually have to learn it.
So you end up with cringe columns like this one.
AI is not some big, scary monster. Companies are using it to improve their workflow, find hidden inefficiencies and conducting deep research as they break down data silos with it. The handful of middle-class people using it to generate images and texts isn’t taking away any so-called “creatives” jobs: they wouldn’t have employed them in the first place.
A generation ago, C-Suite gave equal amount of money to both the Republicans and Democrats: it ensured it made nice with the party that got into power as it ensured the losers didn’t go after them, either. But this generation think they can pick a side and that side will rule forever.
That’s not how it works.
But we have a generation of people who think they are so brilliant, they don’t have to learn: they can naturally figure out everything for themselves without experience or expertise.
And that’s a dangerous assumption to make.
