Journalism is not a focussed profession.

But when Donald Trump kicked out some outlets from reporting on canned events, other journalists got mad and are demanding a boycott.

Which is silly.

Journalists should have never agreed to stand around at press conferences and other canned events in the first place, even if they got paper crowns for their troubles.

Canned events are a way for people in power to herd the press like livestock, look important, and control the narrative. It’s theater.

It is a waste of time to cover political theater. It is much more advantageous to dismantle narratives and find facts that the people in charge want hidden.

If journalists ever want their credibility back, they can start by not covering press conferences. Or “events”.

Covering how much events will cost taxpayers is fair game, however.

But when someone makes a stage to perform for you, it is a sign that the stage was built to hide the chaos happening behind it.
