There is a saying about politicians that is absolutely true: no matter who gets elected to power, the rich stay rich, the poor stay poor, and the wars never end.

And if anyone things voting Zohran Mamdani is going to buck that trend, think again.

I just took yet another AI-based enterprise webinar today so I can keep up with the speed of progress in this industry.

It is shocking how fast AI is developing. The host was talking a mile a minute: he was new to the company, but had serious credentials in the field, and I don’t even think he could believe it. What AI can do right now is now moving from generative to agentic. I honestly was impressed, and that doesn’t not happen very often. I even asked:

Can organizations create reusable skills for evidence-based research and reporting that combine warehouse data with internal files and public-web sources, while keeping source attribution visible?

The short answer wasn’t only “yes,” but that this is standard for people in the company. In other words, people who make the tech use the tech precisely in this way.

I have been taking this series of webinars for less than a year. What was cutting edge when I first got the invite is old timey now. In six months, this will be nothing compared to what AI will be able to do next.

AI is finally finding its footing, and it is finding it by turning its back from the consumer market and aiming straight at the enterprise and STEM markets.

This chasm will only widen now that classrooms in the US think keeping students ignorant and unexposed to an emerging technology is a good thing. Ignorant parents who are AI illiterate have been sold a bill of goods that AI is “bad”, and they swallow it.

“Students won’t be able to think!” Sure, because you are still treating AI as a vending machine. If you taught children AI literacy, they wouldn’t treat AI like cavemen treat potential dinner with a club.

Which means that the New York educational system is absolutely ensuring children don’t have the skills to survive.

Other countries are not sweeping AI under the rug, hoping it goes away. They are teaching their children how to use AI.

So jobs will flow out of countries with high AI illiteracy and move towards those with high AI literacy.

People who living in places where there is farmland and fishing may get by at least being able to feed themselves, but in New York City, people can content themselves with eating bricks.

Because in life, the only thing more expensive than ignorance is ignorance coupled with arrogance.

You cannot muddle through or skirt by with AI now. You have to sit and study it.

But to pander to doomers, the city’s mayor is willing to sacrifice the city’s future while cosplaying as daddy government.
