Doubtful. In Canada, when a province makes that kind of threat, they want more taxpayer money.

But sometimes, foreign actors smell opportunity, and manage to stoke the fires just enough to push things through.

The way they did in the former Yugoslavia, another country that made damage that none of the factions ever fully recovered from. There was a Civil War and people died. You had a lost generation. You had poverty. You had other, larger nations step in and start dictating to the smaller factions their future. The EU swallowed Croatia and Slovenia. As a unit, Yugoslavia had real political clout. As little nations, no one cares about any of them, except for Serbia.

Not because Serbia is some sort of powerhouse, but because it’s neither in Russia’s pocket or the EU’s. The second they choose a side, they can be forgotten like the rest of them.

But even then, China owns most of Serbia’s resources (and pretty much on Montenegro that couldn’t pay back its loan), and other foreigner players have built up the nation and kept the profits to themselves.

The youth fled out to Germany, UK, US, Canada, and Switzerland. Everyone benefited from the disintegration except the people of those countries.

These regions are nations in name only. They killed each other to make their tiny nation as big as possible because not everyone wanted to separate.

It was a stupid thing to do. To this day, people outside that Balkan nation knows who Tito is. No one knows who’s the leaders of those aging mini-nations now.

If Canada broke up, the US would pick them up, not for statehood, though. They would be no different than Puerto Rico, and have no voting rights in the US.

The bigger entity always swallows up the smaller one. Canada has too many natural resources the US needs for them to just let it sit there.

And too much for the current regime not to spend a lavish amount to push the vote for separation.

If people of those two provinces were smart, they’d stay in place and fight Ottawa because the current regime does need serious humbling.

It’s not my call. What will be, will be.

Still, it’s still a temper tantrum, but tantrums sometimes have a funny way of spiralling into something people can no longer control.

It is what it is. When you don’t teach your people to think about tomorrow realistically and critically, they think their fantasies are doable and inevitable.

But life has its own ideas, and never does requests.
