Donald Trump is mentally lazy. He gets by on hacks: bully people until you wear them down, be loosy goosy with the truth as you tell the suckers what they want to hear, use a childlike jingo, and find the shortcut to superficially solve a problem.

That strategy got him far, but because he is obtuse to nuance, he can’t see when that toolkit will produce the opposite outcome

Right now, because the divide between the superrich and everyone else is too big, we now have two economies: one for the superrich, and one for the others. A boon to billionaires no longer translates to security to the middle and working classes.

In fact, it’s the opposite.

Trump thought if he threw money at billionaires and let them do what they wanted, they economy would be great, the little people would be fooled, and the practice of people humbling a sitting president during midterms by voting in candidates from the rival party.

That’s one big reason why Trump started a war with Iran: people tend not to switch parties in times of war, except this war made gas prices skyrocket, and it backfired.

But Trump couldn’t figure out the obvious and now the US economy is in a very bad place.

And because he is such a grandstanding ham who toots his own horn, there is no doubt who is to blame for all of that.

He thought he could shake down Canada. It did not work.

And even if Canada gave in, he would have given resources to billionaires who hoard wealth; so middle and working class people would not have benefit, and most likely would have been even worse off.

And this is not something that can be magically corrected in 20 days.

Not even by someone who can fly by the seat of his pants.
