30 Days Until the US Midterms.
Things have gone from bad to worse for the Republicans. Their shaky coalition of voters are switching sides as the middle class economy tanks.
Donald Trump thought if he drools and gives in to billionaires, he could boast about making the economy strong.
Once upon a time is used to be, “It’s the economy, stupid.”
Now it’s, “It’s the middle class economy, moron.”
But Donald Trump isn’t smart. And he is incredibly mentally lazy. He does things by the skin of his teeth and is the king of short-sighted short cuts. He won the 2016 election without winning the popular vote. That strategy blew up in his face in 2020, but then barely won 2024, but the difference in votes was a little south of 1%.
When your margins that that thin, you can’t afford to make a mistake. You don’t have slack, and that’s the one thing Trump never got through his thick head.
At 30 days, there is no eking out a victory. While Trump focuses on placating billionaires, who are fewer in number than can win him any seats, the Democrats are courting the middle class. More of them who are being humiliated every single day with skyrocketing prices, fewer job opportunities, and a lack of disposable income. Trump thought he found a magical shortcut by drooling over Tech Bros and propping up their sagging fortunes, except it proved to be his undoing.
Even if he changed track now, it’s too late. He alienated too many people with ICE raids, tariffs, a war, and a slew of other mentally lazy missteps. Planning a pivot takes months. Ask Pierre Poilievre: he had a consistent 30 point lead over Justin Trudeau’s Liberals because he kept hammering at Trudeau.
Then Trudeau felt a kick on his backside, and Mark Carney, who obviously had a plan, sashayed in, and Poilievre suddenly couldn’t pivot. His entire script was based on Trudeau being a target that he had no Plan B and he could not alter the outcome 30 days before the election, and that was despite him not having the baggage of not being the architect of his countries woes. He wasn’t prime minister. The buck didn’t stop with him, but it didn’t matter.
Trump never admits flaw. He doubles down on his ill-conceived rhetoric. The results are plain to see as it caused serious damage the economy which counts.
You can’t brag about making billionaire trillionaires to people who get nothing from it, but are in a freefall thanks to your machinations and then expect to keep the House and Senate aligned with you.
It’s not happening. It’s all downhill from here for the man who thought he found a magical shortcut to be Forever Winning.
