Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette is calling on Prime Minister Mark Carney to grant the province special status within a newly formed European alliance.

“Today, I am formally asking Mark Carney for Québec to be granted special status within this alliance: a formal seat at the table and direct participation in discussions concerning our own areas of competence and our interests,” Fréchette wrote in a social media post on Thursday.

“Québec already holds a distinct position within the OIF and UNESCO. We must secure comparable recognition within this new partnership.”

You want special status? Great. Pay for it in cash money. That’s how it works.

And I think it is very generous of Quebec to go into their own provincial coffers to pony us for the premium and not expect taxpayers from the rest of the country to do it for them.

The EU is a condo, and you have to pay their fees. If Quebec wants a premium condo, they can pay for it themselves and get the free paper crown that comes with it.
