When You Have Two Economies, You End Up With…Boomerang Money.
When you have an economy for billionaires and a economy for everyone else, something interesting happens: you get Boomerang Money.
What is Boomerang money?
Boomerang Money is the use of money compulsorily paid, practically unavoidable, or entrusted by a group to build institutional power that reduces that group’s practical ability to hold the institution accountable.
You have to pay insurance premiums. You have to pay taxes…but that money is then used to rig the board against the one who is forced to pay.
Canada has a Boomerang Money problem.
You don’t have a lobbyist working on your behalf, but you pay for the lobbyist who will get the government to make a bad law that works in the company’s favor, not yours.
Boomerang Money is not about customers always being right. It is about institutions using the public’s own money to remove the public’s ability to prove when the institution is wrong.
And that’s the difference.
Once you see the Two Economies and Boomerang Money, you can’t unsee it.
