When everyone loves you and suddenly piles on you, something is going on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The question is why has the press suddenly turned on Mark Carney, and so quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are three viable explanations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. The press is simply reporting a new truth they did not see before.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Carney is grating to MPs who hope shaming him in public will humble him so he understands that’s not acceptable behavior to them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. A third actor has a vested interest in getting Carney weakened.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    So let’s go through these theories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. The Press is Simply Reporting a New Truth They Did Not See Before: <\/strong>Ha, ha, no. Journalists hang around the corridors of Parliament Hill; they hung around the corridors when Carney was the head of the Bank of Canada. They see him in action, and kept silent <\/em>for decades. <\/em>They saw; they knew; they didn’t tell you, middle-class person. We can take this theory off the table.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Carney is Grating to MPs Who Hope Shaming Him in Public Will Humble<\/strong> Him So He Understands That’s Not Acceptable Behavior to Them:<\/strong> This is definitely possible. Most of the MPs have more experience in the job than Carney, and didn’t sign up to be abused. This could very well be a strategic gambit to remind Carney that wearing a paper crown doesn’t give him carte blanche to act like a brat. This isn’t to say the MPs are faultless: they could be equally self-entitled or are used to breaking in a PM. It’s not relevant: what is relevant is that when it comes between a man and a mob, sometimes the mob will turn on the man if he doesn’t respect their “rules.”<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. A Third Actor Has a Vested Interest in Getting Carney Weakened: <\/strong>This is the most probable of the running theories, and it can be happening with or even because of Scenario #2. Carney didn’t pay his dues in the political sphere, and there can be jealousy and resentment. It could be that a third party is using proxies in Parliament and the press to ensure Carney does as he is told. Whoever it is, they have substantial sway over the press or their overlords who now have revised their narrative of Carney. As we saw with the gaggle of MPs who crossed the floor to join the liberals, it doesn’t take much to break loyalty to the leader of the party, the constituents who votes you in, and the party itself. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      The weakening may depend on many factors: from forcing Carney to walk back something he wanted passed into law to forcing him to resign so someone else reaps the benefits of his machinations. In any case, Carney now has a target on his back, and whoever is behind it has every intention of throwing enough darts to rig an outcome.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
