Canada has a horrid track record when it comes to Freedom of Information requests. When I worked on A Time to Kill, getting police files was a challenge; that’s why US cases were the staple of the show. Universities are exempt entirely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So that Doug Ford wants to make a cloistered system even more of a black box, should not be surprising; however, the question is why now?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Devising a thesis should not be difficult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doug Ford is a go-getter. Call it Blond Ambition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is more than obvious that he wants to be Prime Minister. He threw Pierre Poilievre under a bus during the last federal election. This was a devastating snub and prevented the Tories from taking an easy majority from the battered Grits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ford would have counted on fellow “Conservative” Donald Trump to be a supporter, and that would have normally given Ford a big boost for his chances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Except Donald Trump could write a book called The Art of Throwing Allies Under the Bus.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump not only decided to slap tariffs against Canada; he made childish threats of annexing the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ford scrambled and improvised flawlessly with his Captain Canada routine, signage, merch and all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was something Ford could control with ease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He could also control getting another majority in Ontario. With no real competition, he could sail to yet another victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What he can’t control are the job losses from tariffs and now the US’s bombing of Iran. He can’t control inflation, either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plan A was in the trash the second Trump flapped his gums; so what’s Plan B?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whatever it involves, it was necessary to ensure access to information was cut-off, hinting that whatever the plan, it hasn’t been enacted yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
