There is a particular kind of internet comment that does not want to be read.
It wants to be witnessed.
I’m leaving this group.
Unfollowing.
This is why I’m done with this page.
No one has asked them to stay. No one is physically preventing them from closing the app. Yet apparently, departure now requires a press conference.
This is not an exit.
It is an audition for the role of Person With Standards.
The announcement says: “I have seen something beneath me, and I would like credit for noticing.”
And the ideal response is not “Goodbye.” That would end the scene. The desired response is: “No, please, explain.”
But there is no need to explain.
